Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

Frog In The Pocket is developed and published by larryoatmeal. This policy covers the game — however you bought it, including on Steam and the App Store — along with this website (frog.larryoatmeal.com) and the mailing list. The short version: the game stores what it needs to run leaderboards and to find and fix crashes, there are no ads and no cross-app tracking, and nothing is ever sold or handed to data brokers.

What the game collects

Not every feature described here is available in every version of the game. Where a feature isn’t present, or you simply don’t use it, none of the data described for it is collected.

Playing and posting scores

You can play and post scores without an account. To do that, the game creates an identity for you and stores:

  • an account ID generated on the server — a random value, not derived from anything about you;
  • an install ID generated by your copy of the game, so the same device keeps the same scores between sessions;
  • a username, if you choose one — this is the only thing other players ever see;
  • your best score on each song and mode;
  • a run history: one row per attempt, recording which song and mode it was, the score, and the time it was played.

No name, no email address and no password is involved in this.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional and exists so your progress can follow you across devices. If you sign in with Google, Google confirms who you are and the following is stored alongside everything above:

  • your Google account identifier;
  • your email address;
  • your display name;
  • your profile picture URL.

Your email address is also carried inside the sign-in token held on your device, which is how the server recognises you on later requests. It is never shown to other players, never published on a leaderboard, and never used for marketing — the mailing list is entirely separate and opt-in (see below). If other sign-in providers are added later, they will be used the same way: to confirm who you are and to link your progress, nothing more.

Private leaderboards with friends

If you create or join a group (a “circle”), the group’s name, its invite code, and the fact that you are a member — with the date you joined — are stored. Other members can see your username, your scores, your rank and when you joined. They cannot see your email address. Leaving deletes your membership record immediately, and when the last member leaves, the group itself is deleted.

Levels you publish

If you publish a level for other players, its contents are stored along with your username as the author, so people can see who made it. Deleting a published level removes the level itself; a small record marking it deleted is retained.

Crashes and performance

When something goes wrong, the game reports diagnostic information so it can be fixed: crash reports, performance measurements such as frame rate, load times and memory use, and similar technical detail about the device and the session. This is used only to keep the game working — never for advertising, and never to build a profile of you.

These reports are not linked to your account or your identity. On Apple platforms they are delivered through Apple’s own crash reporting and analytics, which means they are only shared with us if you have agreed to share analytics with developers — you can change that at any time in your device’s Privacy & Security settings, under Analytics & Improvements.

How the game gets used

Aggregate product-interaction data — how often the game is launched, which screens and songs get opened, how far players get — is used to understand how the game is played and what to improve next. It is counted in aggregate and is not linked to your identity. On Apple platforms this comes from Apple’s App Analytics and is subject to the same opt-in described above; on Steam, Valve provides equivalent aggregate statistics.

What the game does not collect

  • No advertising identifiers, no ad networks, and no tracking across other apps or websites. Nothing here is used for advertising, and no data is sold or shared with data brokers.
  • No IP addresses are recorded in the game’s database. (Any server that receives a request necessarily sees the connecting IP in transit; it is not stored as part of your profile.)
  • No microphone, camera, contacts, location, or files outside the game’s own save directory.
  • No payment details. Purchases are handled entirely by the store you bought the game from — see Valve’s Privacy Policy and Apple’s Privacy Policy. From either store we receive only aggregate, anonymised sales and engagement statistics, and never see your name, email address, or payment method.

Who processes this data

  • Amazon Web Services — the database and file storage holding everything described above.
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in, and only to confirm that sign-in.
  • Valve / Steam — distribution, purchases and refunds on Steam, under Valve’s own policy.
  • Apple — distribution, purchases and refunds on the App Store, plus the crash reporting and analytics described above, under Apple’s own policy.

Nothing is sold, rented, or handed to advertisers or data brokers.

App Store data labels

For anyone comparing this page against the privacy label on the App Store listing, here is the same information in Apple’s terms.

Linked to your identity, all used for app functionality:

  • Email address — only if you choose to sign in.
  • User ID — the account and install IDs that keep your scores attached to you.
  • User content (gameplay content) — your scores, run history, and any levels you publish.

Not linked to your identity:

  • Product interaction — used for analytics, as described above.
  • Crash data, performance data and other diagnostic data — used for app functionality, to find and fix problems.

Nothing here is used for advertising or marketing, and none of it is used to track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

This website

This site uses Plausible Analytics, self-hosted on the same infrastructure as this site. It sets no cookies, does not track you across sites, and collects no personal data — only aggregate counts of page views, referrers, and coarse device and country information. Clicks on the Steam, Instagram, mailing-list and support-email links are counted as anonymous events.

Every asset on this site — fonts, images, video — is served from this domain. There are no third-party CDNs, embedded fonts, trackers, or ad scripts, so simply loading a page here does not hand your IP address to anyone else. The web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, requested URL, user agent) for a short period for security and debugging.

Mailing list

The mailing list is run on Buttondown. It stores your email address and nothing else, you only get on it by signing up yourself, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe. It is not connected to your in-game account.

Children

This game is not directed at children under 13, and no data is knowingly collected from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and it will be deleted.

How long data is kept, and your rights

Account, score, run-history and group data is kept for as long as the online features run, so that leaderboards remain meaningful. Crash, performance and usage data is aggregated and retained by the platform that collects it under that platform’s own retention rules — for Apple, see Apple’s privacy policy.

You can ask for a copy of everything held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account and all associated scores and history to be deleted. There is currently no self-service delete button in the game — email frog@larryoatmeal.com and we will handle it by hand. Please send the request from the email address on the account if you have one, or include your username, so we can find the right records.

Links to other sites

Steam, Instagram and Buttondown are operated by other companies with their own privacy policies. This policy does not cover them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or how it is used, the date at the top will be updated and, where the change is significant, it will be announced on the mailing list.
